Essence is a musical experience; textured vocals with illustrative lyrics and honey-dipped melodies to leave you wanting more.
Dynamic duo Essence have spent the last number of years nurturing a dream to bring their music to the forefront. Now emerging onto Birmingham’s music scene, Essence are utilizing their passion for singing and song writing to establish a collection of ‘hooky’ and heart-felt songs, experimenting with urban rhythm’s whilst interlacing RnB and soulful vocals with popular melodies.
Cultivating their talents from a young age, being brought up in a musical family; spontaneous “sibling- jams” were a regular occurrence at home. Getting involved in concerts at school, local gigs, and then progressing to regional and national talent shows and performances, music is written in the very DNA of Essence. Much of the heart and love instilled within Essence’s music is a direct result of their strong roots in Church and musical worship.
Developing as vocalists, songwriters and storytellers, Essence use their experiences, faith and surrounding relationships to illustrate and address the messages of this generation that are often left unheard. A depth of understanding, unity and love that can only be cultivated in a sisterly relationship: Essence draw on these key ingredients to imbue their music with catchy melodies, and pitch perfect harmonies that embrace every carefully considered lyric that is delivered to the listener. Songs such as “Have You Ever Been in Love?” and “Boy (Stiletto Shoes)” are bound to have you singing along! While songs “Give Him a Chance” and “Young Girl of Today” aim to portray and challenge some of the issues that are commonly faced by people today.
Essence have raised the bar over the last year, having the pleasure of featuring at the HMV Institute, Birmingham, and also having the opportunity to showcase some of their original material at The Forum Live, LG Arena, Birmingham, ahead of touring band – The Wanted. Essence also entertain their fans with YouTube covers of hit tracks, such as Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind”, and Gotye, “Somebody That I Used to Know” featuring Kimbra.
Essence are currently writing, producing and recording a collection of original songs for the release of their début EP coming out this year.
